Talbot County MD Sheriff Dallas E. Pope offers a great document to keep by your phone. It is useful everywhere. Click here for a copy in pdf format. We the people thank you Sheriff Pope.
“When a citizen goes hungry – especially a child – anywhere in Maryland, it impacts all of us. There’s no such thing as a spare American, or a spare Marylander. And during this holiday season, we should remind ourselves not only of the blessings many of us have, but of our responsibility to serve the greater community for those in need,” said Governor O’Malley. “As Marylanders we’ve always led the way in times of great adversity, setting an example for other States to rally around. Even through these tough times, we are leading the way toward becoming the first State in the nation to end childhood hunger.” ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 16, 2010)–Governor Martin O’Malley - Talking about The Maryland Food Bank

Short list of good ministries to support
There are hundreds of good charities desiring to help in Haiti and within this group a lot of faith-based organizations and within this smaller group, many Christian ministries. A very short list of ministries to consider for support is the following seven:
We are confident that Christians will continue to respond generously to those affected by this tragedy. As they do, we encourage donors to practice due diligence as a routine and then track the progress of relief efforts by those ministries supported.04 DEC 2010 - 2nd Vice President John Hulse Sussex County Local No.138
New Jersey State Police Benevolent Association
Once again, judging from the amount of complaints being received by the State Office, the phone lines of New Jersey residents are again abuzz with calls from telemarketers panhandling donations on behalf of organizations who claim to represent the interests of Law Enforcement Officers.
All too often and nearly without exception, these groups who still utilize this underhanded and deceptive method of fundraising really only serve to represent the interests of the telemarketers and shysters they employ.
When receiving complaints, Local Association leaders should make every effort to notify their residents that these calls are not coming from the PBA. A Consumer Fraud link can be found on the State PBA website on the Members & Delegates page. Also, some delegates have made press releases warning their neighbors of such scams.
The PBA places the value of our trusted relationship with the community far above the value of any monetary donations. Furthermore, the PBA is run exclusively on our members’ dues, a fact that we are very proud of.
Please do your part to educate the public and encourage them to say NO! to telemarketers once and for all.
